Congratulations to our Bactrian Camel Elsa who gave birth to a female calf last month! This is Elsa’s second calf here at the Park, with big sister Amber born in June 2023.
Both mum and baby are doing incredibly well, and the little one was up and about within hours of being born. You can see Elsa and her two daughters, along with the rest of the camel group, opposite the Little Africa exhibit.

DID YOU KNOW?
Bactrian Camels are adapted to survive in temperatures from 40°C down to -40°C! On your next visit you will notice that they moult their fur to stay cooler over the summer.
Congratulations are also in order for our female African Pygmy Goat Pico, who has given birth for a second year in a row. Her new baby has been named Mary, and you can find them on the children’s farmyard next to the Oxford Sandy and Black Pigs.

Our African Pygmy Goat walkthrough is open from 10.00am every day, where you can go in and meet our larger group, including last year’s kids. May we politely remind everyone to approach the animals slowly and calmly when in the walkthrough so as not to spook them.

In the Walled Garden you will notice the Weaver Birds have begun their nest building, which involves carefully weaving materials such as grasses and twigs into a spherical basket nest with a narrow entrance. This clever natural design is to ensure the birds and any eggs are protected as much as possible from any threats.
DID YOU KNOW?
The males construct the intricate nests as part of a courtship display to attract a female, and it can sometimes take around 2-3 weeks for them to complete a nest!

Across the Park a new male Reindeer called Kenny has joined the collection this month from Dudley Zoo. He has been selected for the Park to be the new breeding male and he is sporting some very impressive antlers!
You can find Kenny and the Reindeer paddock at the bottom of the grass car park, opposite the Ostriches.
EXTRA EXTRA!
The Giant Tortoise house is under construction and should be completed by the end of the month. In the meantime, George, Sheldon and Darwin have been enjoying their temporary home and all the lovely food on offer in the paddock!
Thank you to everyone that supported World Binturong Day and Lemur Week this month!
Your generosity with our fundraising events always means so much to everyone here at the Park, as it allows us to continue our work with some meaningful and crucial conservation projects.
