Fatsia

Attractive, evergreen shrubs offering particular interest at this time of year, Fatsia have large, glossy, lobed leaves, with panicles of creamy flowers that offer insects much needed nectar in early winter.

Fatsias, originating from Southern Japan, Southern Korea and Taiwan, provide a lush, tropical look.  They have the additional benefit of growing in most soils and aspects and will tolerate shady conditions. In the Walled Garden, examples can be seen of Fatsia japonica ‘Variegata’ adjacent to the Macaws; Fatsia japonica by the Well Bed under an apple tree and Fatsia polycarpa ‘Green Finger’, a deeply lobed variety, next to the Ginkgo tree by the Hornbill aviary.
