Animal of the Month : November 2019
The Dwarf Mongoose is Africa’s smallest carnivore and they come from the grasslands, open forests and bush land of East and Central Africa. They are particularly fond of areas with termite mounds – their favourite sleeping place. They live in extended family groups of up to 30 animals, led by a dominant pair, and spend their day foraging for food, which includes spiders, scorpions, lizard, snakes, birds and rodents.
Our group live near the “Little Africa” exhibit with the Porcupines, and can often be seen scurrying around trying to steal their food! In June this year, our female gave birth to triplets, named Snap, Crackle and Pop by their keeper. They are a great little family, so make sure you check them out next time you are passing their enclosure.
