Zebra Foal Update

Many of our visitors have been following the saga of our Zebra foal, born on 11th August.  We are so sorry to report that he was found on the morning of 4th December with a very badly fractured leg and having lost a lot of blood, and the decision was taken to put him down.  There really was no way any veterinary care could have done anything other than prolong the agony.

How he broke his leg is a mystery.  He was in his usual stable and yard for the night, in the company of his mum and the other mares, in visual contact but separated from the stallion.  Something might have spooked the group, he might have slipped and at the same time been stepped on by one of the adults.  We will never know, but it was almost certainly a freak accident, and he has now gone to the great grassy plains in the sky.
