Restaurant Water Feature Raises cash for Wildlife Conservation

Strangely enough we Brits seem compelled to throw money into pools whenever we come across them, whether it is to reduce the weight of small change in pockets, or in the hope of a wish being granted, it is almost customary.

With this season coming to an end, the Gardens department took the opportunity to empty and clean the water feature located at the front of the restaurant. Over the summer months this new feature has proved extremely popular with our visitors. We were expecting to find a few coins at the bottom of the water feature, but when drained virtually the whole of the pool bottom was covered in coins. It took several staff members all morning to collect the coins, which, when counted, came to a staggering £670.47, far more than we had anticipated.

All of the money is going to a U.K. Registered charity called Tusk Trust which promotes the conservation of African wildlife and the protection of endangered species. The Trust is committed to improving environmental education, establishing valuable rural community development programmes, encouraging the rehabilitation of habitats and promoting responsible eco-tourism. To learn more about Tusk visit www.tusk.org.

So if you were one of the visitors who threw a coin into our water feature this summer, many thanks, we are all very grateful for your generosity (and hope your wish comes true!).
