Sloth Arrival

Our Tropical House accommodates its first ever mammalian guests, a pair of Linne's Two-toed Sloth. There is nowhere on the Park more suited to this tropical species.
They inhabit forests of northern South America and spend their lives suspended upside down on tree branches...

Imagine spending 15-18 hours asleep a day whilst suspended upside down by your fingernails in a forest canopy. Your hair parts the wrong way, your internal organs aren't where they should be, it takes you up to a month to digest your food and your average climbing speed is 6-8 feet a minute, but your ancestors were the size of an elephant and had claws that were over 12 inches long, so who's gonna mess with that!

Everything about this extraordinary animal is so bizarre that you just have to love it; this has to be the most abnormal animal species ever accommodated at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and the keeping staff are enjoying every minute of it.

Brother and sister, Kachiri and Tucurui (South American tribal names) arrived this month from Hamerton Zoo logical Park , Cambridgeshire. They are being displayed in the Tropical House in the Walled Garden area.

The Tropical House provides the animals with a near perfect match to their natural habitat, a humid lush environment filled with all manner of bird species. Lets just hope they stay awake long enough to appreciate it!
