Rhinoceros Iguana

We are making a concerted effort this year to breed our Rhinoceros Iguana. We had eggs from them last year, but they all proved to be infertile (the male was not old enough).

Our hopes are high for this year, since November through to February 2003 we have cooled down their enclosure by 5 degrees centigrade. The cool down period will encourage conditions for breeding.

As the enclosure is gradually warmed up, we also begin to increase the humidity; to give them the right conditions for breeding.

They lay up to 20 eggs, which will be placed in an incubator so that we can control their temperature. If we reduce the incubator temperature by 1-2 degrees centigrade, we can increase the number of females in the clutch.
