Animal Encounters

Choose from a variety of different animal encounters which will give you the chance to learn more about our Keeper's work; gain a little hands-on experience and help to feed and care for the animals at the Park.

Our animal encounters last around half an hour (although this varies depending on the animals) and are suitable for both adults and children (children must be at least six years old and are required to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times).

All Animal Encounters must be booked and paid for at least one week in advance, see bottom of page for booking information.

Meet and feed the Giant Tortoises

Come and meet our Giant Tortoises. Get up close to these wonderfully calm animals, the second largest species of tortoise after the Galapagos Tortoise. Meet their keeper and learn about the work we do with this species. Availability: 11 am every day.

Meet the Lemurs

Meet the Lemur Keeper and learn about our important work with these Madagascan primates, have a guided tour around our popular Madagascar exhibit, and walk amongst the Lemurs and other Madagascan species present in this area before helping the Keeper to feed the Lemurs. Availability: 11 am every day

Penguin Feed

Our group of Humboldt Penguins are fed each morning and afternoon, during which their Keeper gives a talk.  You can now get involved with this popular species by helping out at feeding time.  You will have the opportunity to meet the Penguin keeper before the feeding session, help feed the Penguins and be part of the talk given to members of the public. Availability: 11am Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday,    4pm every day (3pm during winter months).

Meet the Giraffes

Go eye to eye with the world's tallest mammals; meet our magnificent group of Giraffes and their keeper and learn about their care. You will be able to ask ask any questions you might have about these amazing animals and help to feed them.

Availability: 12 noon every day.

Farmyard Encounters

Visit our Children’s Farmyard with one of our knowledgeable keepers and meet some of the animals who live there, including our friendly miniature Ouessant sheep, the pygmy goats, miniature donkeys and the rabbits and guinea pigs. You will be able to learn about caring for the farmyard animals and help to feed some of them. Availability:3.30pm every day

Feed the Tapirs and Capybaras

A unique opportunity to find out more about two of our popular South American species.  Meet our friendly Brazilian Tapirs and help their keeper at feeding time, find out about caring for these unusual animals and then accompany their keeper through the walk-through area to feed our Capybaras, the world's largest rodents. Availability:2.30pm  Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri

Each animal encounter costs £50 and is for one person (an adult is required to accompany anyone under the age of 17; additional friends or family are welcome to watch and take photos, from normal public viewing areas, subject to the Park's normal admission prices) free admission to the Park for one person is included within the £50 price.
