Key Stage 2

You are welcome to select our Key stage 1 “Caring for Animals” and “The Life of plants” talks.

In addition, we offer:

The Variety of Life

We offer two tours, one for a dry day and one for a wet day.

Dry Day Tour: Starting at the manor house, this tour will visit our rhino and zebra enclosure, red pandas, lar gibbons, the reptile and invertebrate houses, vultures, owls and monkeys before finishing at the giant tortoise enclosure.

Wet Day Tour: Starting outside the reptile house we look at fish, frogs, snakes, lizards, crocodiles, tortoises, gibbons, bats, hedgehogs, ants, spiders, cockroaches and snails, trying to put each into an appropriate zoological group as we go. (If it is not too wet, we also look at snowy owls and vultures).

The weather on the day will determine the talk we give.

Habitats

Rainforests: Given in the walled garden, unless the weather is very wet, this talk uses our range of small primates and parrots to illustrate adaptations shown by animals in all levels of the rainforest, before entering the tropical house to look for sloths, rainforest birds, insectivorous plants and banana palms. The talk will end in our Madagascar enclosure.

African Animals: We have a range of African animals and their close relatives easily accessible from one corner of the Park. This tour uses these animals to illustrate adaptations to African habitats, especially savannah and desert, as well as giving some understanding of the day-to-day management of larger animals in captivity.
