Egyptian Fruit Bat Enrichment July 2009 - Hanging Feeders

For the fruit bats we generally hang their diet up in kebab form from frames attached to ropes, so it can be hung high in the enclosure to encourage naturally feeding, as they would normally feed of fruit trees in the wild. A few times a month we put novel foods in hanging feeders for them to eat from. This gives them novel food items, which stimulates their senses, such as taste and smell, and presenting it in the feeders is a novel approach at feeding too, so it gives them a new challenge of retrieving the food.

The novel food in the hanging feeders is grapes and chopped cucumber, which is a favourite of theirs.
