Size: Length; 38cm. Weight; up to 425g.
Habitat and Distribution: Argentina and Chile. Pastures, meadows, open boggy areas.
Groups and Breeding: Nest in a shallow scrape. Lay 4 eggs which are incubated for 27 days.
Diet: Insects and small fish.
- 67 species make up the family Charadriidae (plovers).
- The Southern Lapwing gets its local name Los Teros from the Uruguay national rugby union team.
- Southern Lapwings have red spurs at the bend of the wing which are displayed to rivals and for defence.
