White-browed Coucal
Centropus superciliosus

IUCN Status: Least concern.

Size: Length; 42cm. Weight; 180g.

Habitat and distribution: Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Riverside, dense bush, tall grasses.

Breeding: Nest in a dome made from grass and twigs, lined with leaves. Lay up to 6 eggs which are incubated for around 15 days.

 

  • 136 species make up the family Cuculidae (cuckoos).
  • They have zygodactyle toes; the inner and outer toes point backwards and the other two toes point forward.
  • The White-browed Coucal is the commonest coucal in East Africa.
