The scientific name Turaco, is derived from Turacin which is a copper complex chemical which gives the birds their crimson primary flight feathers, which are unique to this family. Touracos are good fliers but often prefer to run along branches rather than fly from perch to perch.

Distributed from Africa - western and central Angola, this little-known species is not at present globally threatened. It is endemic to war-torn Angola where clearance of submontane forest and degradation of broadleaf woodland presents a possible threat to its numbers. Feeds on seeds, fruits and berries.
